Day 5 - Tues 20th May

Tulsa, Ok to Oklahoma, Ok

"Oklahoma City Lookin' Mighty Pretty"

Only a short drive today of about 135 miles.

After a late night with Heather & J W, we missed breakfast at our hotel. I couldn't access the Internet last night but managed to in the lobby this morning. So I updated the blog.
Still can't create a link to a slide show of all our photos so am thinking to
include more on each blog post.
Drove about 10 miles and stopped for brunch in Salina's, Sapulpa, Tulsa, Ok.
The food was great. I had an American breakfast which included a full American breakfast with a side order of french toast stuffed with blueberries & cream. French toast is another name for DOUGHNUTS. I was Pogged!
Afterwards, the owner, Mark, came and chatted to us & insisted on buying us a desert of blueberry ......... which was delicious.

Giant Alert: When we left he gave us the biggest
 strawberries you have ever seen.
We continued driving through Oklahoma. The countryside at first was similar to Missouri's flat bits. Then it started to open up into the prairies. Lots of cattle and dead armadillos.
The driving was easy. Less diversions onto the old, old route and more driving on "A" roads. Most of the driving was within eyesight of an interstate, but there were some lovely stretches of countryside driving without any other cars in sight.

We were now in Injun country so we circled the car or was it that Kev took the wrong turn. (That was Boley)

One of the diversions onto the old, old old took us along Shoe Tree Loop. It is famous for a tree festooned with funky footwear. It was only small with a few smelly trainers hanging on it. We didn't even bother taking a pic. There is another one near Amboy, California. Maybe we'll hang something on it there.

After about 45 minutes arrived in Stroud where the Rock Cafe is. This is a R66 institution so we had to stop.
The owner, Sandy seemed disappointed that we didn't want
anything to eat & we felt a little guilty, so we ordered Fried Green Tomatoes at The Rock Cafe. By then we were bursting. Took some photos & moved on.
Here's pics of Boley & Sandy & The Rock Cafe:

We carried on down the road and reach Arcadia, Ok, which is famous for it's round barn. Now this IS a R66 institution. I couldn't wait!
Now I don't want to sound rude or disrespectful (I am serious folks), but the The Round Barn of Arcadia, is just that. A round barn. Now we may be missing the point and doing the good folk of Arcadia a disservice, but there is NOTHING to see. There were a few odd to say the least items for sale, someone had written little dities on paper plates and was selling them for a buck. You could also buy your own red brick for $25. I bought 3 & put them in Boley's bag. He hasn't realised it yet!
The barn is on two levels. The ground floor houses an exhibition of it's history and restoration, with a few historical artifacts and the upper floor is used as a room for events, parties etc. Now the upper room I admit is impressive with a polished wooden floor and intricate domed roof, but it is still a barn!
Anyway, we took some silly photos, thanked the curator and left.

We drove on to Oklahoma City and arrived about 6:30. Drove past the capital buildings.
We had heard that an are called Bricktown was the place with bars & restaurants so we made our way there. We called in at a Bass Pro Shop, which is a large outdoor wear/camping/sailing shop. Bought some shoes (to hang on a Shoe Tree) and had a go on the infra-red rifle range and booked into a hotel.

Got something to eat and found a bar with live music. It wasn't particularly busy, but we got settled and towards the end of the evening got talking to Joanna, Britney & Chad who were in town on business. Had a laugh with them (Hi!) & told them to come & visit us anytime in England.  Chad & Britney are engaged so congrats!
Left late and updated the blog til 3 am.
Long drive tomorrow, about 260 miles to Amarillo.
Mileage: 977 miles
Sharp Shooting Score:
Boley: 3
Moggy:8

Tickets arrived a few days ago for that gig Nicole mentioned. I have put them away somewhere, probably with your gear outside the back at Boley's ha ha
Will go to the gym in the morning, it was quite busy on Tues, don't like it like that.
Are you on target with your mileage, I could do with a map really to get a better idea of where you are.
Hope you're still in love!! Is Boley still sleeping with his underpants over his face, have you had anymore marshmallows!!
