Chicago Wed 14th May - Day 1 Minus 2

Weather:

Yesterday it was sunny and about 25C. Today it is cloudy and 12C.

What a bummer!

Boley kept me awake with his rendition of the 1812 Overture.

I have told most people the story of when me & Boley went to Egypt and on the first night a cockroach climbed into his mouth,  After that, he slept every night with a pair of underpants over his mouth. (Not necessarily always his own.)

Well that was a long time ago and he's grown up since then. He now sleeps with a giant marsh mellow in his mouth!.......and here is the proof:

Today we decided to find the start of R 66 & where we pick up the hire car from. So that is what we did.

In fact , we also found the end of R 66.

Our thanks to Frank at Alamo Car hire for sorting out our car. This had been a major problem before arriving here, but Frank has done the business.

We then walked around and took lots of photos of skyscrapers, the Chicago River and found a great pub in an area called River North: The Green Door Tavern. The barman, John was great company and kept us drinking there for most of the afternoon talking about Chicago, the UK and golf.  It wasn't until after we had left did we realise that he had put some beers on the house! 

Cheers John, we owe you a couple of beers.

Great beer and great food.

After that we went back to the hotel, got changed and headed up The Sears Tower at dusk. By the time we got to the top, it was almost dark, so the photos aren't great. Then we headed back into River North, drank beer, met and chatted to many locals and had a great time. By the way, the Chicago people are really friendly and great fun.

Tomorrow (Thursday) we fly to Detroit to see the Detroit Cobras, so I won't be updated this until Friday evening, (Day 1). By then, we should have started our epic struggle against the lure of the pub and should be on route in Springfield, IL.
